How to Use Trello to Plan Your Next Vacation

If youโ€™ve followed me or have been a reader of my blog for a while...really even in the past 3-6 months...you know that I love to use Trello to plan out...my life ha!  Something that I love to plan in Trello outside of my business content are vacations.  Now that the world is starting to open back up again, the travel bug is ready to come out of many people! Iโ€™ll be heading out for a summer family vacation soon and wanted to share ways that I use Trello to get organized and plan out my vacations.

To start, I generally use 2-3 boards, but thatโ€™s only because I like to keep certain pieces of planning separated.  You can use any combination of these board ideas, but I will explain what I do:

Board 1: Trip Research

I have a board that I put content on from my research of restaurants, coffee shops, things to do in the area, hotels, rental car prices, and more.  I organize all of the things I find from my research in the appropriate list for the item.  I like to keep this all in one separate board because itโ€™s essentially a brain dump.  I donโ€™t intend to visit every place on this board, but I do like to have a list to choose from when creating my actual list for vacation to-dos.

Board 2: Prep Week

My prep week board contains all of my to-dos for the 7 days leading up to the day we leave for vacation as well as a packing list. I have a packing list for myself which contains cards such as tech items, personal care items, and miscellaneous items.  I also have a list for my daughter's items that need to be packed containing her toys/entertainment items, vitamins, snacks, etc.

After the packing lists comes the 7 lists dedicated to each day for the week.  On the day of the week lists, I include the things that I need to do each day to prepare such as pack clothes, do my hair and nails, download movies to devices, shop for road snacks, clean the house, etc.  I give myself one week to do #allthethings so I donโ€™t stress myself out and try to do everything at the last minute.  I also like to space things out so I donโ€™t forget anything, and since Iโ€™m packing for two people itโ€™s a lot more to remember.  By the way...is it just me or is it annoying that my husband can pack for a week long trip in one evening? LOL

Here is an example of one of the checklists in the packing list:

Board 3: Vacation Week

The third board that I plan is dedicated to the week that we will be on vacation.  This board also contains lists for the days of the week and the restaurants, things to do, places to see, etc. I also have a list that contains travel information such as lodging information, flight schedules, rental car info, etc.  I like to keep all of these items together in one board because the actual information and events that we will be doing are all in one place. Also, since Trello has an App, I can easily access my information on the go (even with no connection!).

Depending on the type of vacation that Iโ€™m going on I may not plan out the things to do in as much detail.  If itโ€™s a relaxing getaway to unwind, I donโ€™t use this kind of board because I like to be a little more free flowing.  If itโ€™s a family vacation where we will be going to a new city and WANT to do everything, yes, I am planning each day out.  There have been too many vacations where I have not planned things out or done extensive research of the local restaurants and things to do, and have found myself ordering pizza for dinner that I could have gotten at home.  To avoid this, and to check out the local cuisine and more, the plans are needed.

As I mentioned, if you like the idea of planning out your vacation, you can use any combination of the boards I use for inspiration.  I use the first two always, and third if I'm visiting somewhere new and want to really explore the area. Try this out the next time you are vacation planning- it will make things so much easier to manage and navigate!

5 Kitchen Appliances That Will Simplify Your Cooking Process

I will be the first to tell you that me and the kitchen have an agreement in order to co-habitate:  I will tolerate cooking in it as long as I can make a quick, tasty, remotely healthy meal.  Over the years we have come to terms on it and are living nicely together now.  As a busy Wife, Mom, Employee and Business Owner, itโ€™s important for me to find ways to simplify my life and processes.  I get the feeling you can relate to this!  So if you need to find ways to make tasty, healthy meals quickly, this post is all about the appliances and processes I use to do just that!

1. InstantPot

I started using an InstantPot around 2 years ago.  My sister had been telling me for a while to get one and that Iโ€™d love it, but I just never got around to it.  Well one day Kroger (my local grocery store) had them on sale and there was also an in-app coupon for appliances, so I took it as a sign to purchase.  After I made my first meal in it, I wondered what took me so long to get one!  It is now a staple in my kitchen...I will always have a pressure cooker!

My favorite part about the InstantPot is that it cooks food so quickly, and the food doesnโ€™t dry out (unless you donโ€™t follow the directions, but thatโ€™s with anything).  I have made so many main and side dishes (pastas, stews, rice dishes, and much more!), and it has easily cut my cooking time in half.

I suggest purchasing a cookbook that gives InstantPot recipes so you can have access to a variety of meals specifically for this appliance.  I use the SkinnyTaste One and Done Cookbook which contains healthy meals that are full of flavor.

2. Air Fryer

An air fryer is also a staple in my kitchen now.  My husband purchased one a few years back and it has also been something that has been a game changer in my cooking process.  The air fryer that we have is also a convection oven and toaster, so the ability to make various types of meals further makes cooking a breeze.  The two things that I love about the air fryer are that it actually fries very well with no oil (hello healthy, non-greasy fried foods!) and the process is fast!  I have made several things in the air fryer as well (Asian salmon, homemade chicken nuggets, chicken breasts, and more).

I also suggest getting a cookbook that is for Air Fryers.  I really love the SkinnyTaste cookbooks, haha!  I also have her Air Fryer cookbook.  It is full of healthy recipes that cook quickly and taste great!

3. Electric Milk Frother

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I love a good latte!  I especially love making them, and itโ€™s the only thing I will not automate lol  BUT I do like to use an electric milk frother to make cold cream foam for iced lattes or colorful froth.  I also use it to steam milk when Iโ€™m running short on time and need my latte quicker than normal.  An electric frother is a great way to up the ante on your morning (or afternoon or night!) coffee and quickly.  I have been using this electric frother for around 6 months now and it is awesome!  The froth comes out so smooth and my favorite feature is that it is very quiet (the one I had before was so loud)!

4. Electric Kettle

Another staple in my kitchen that makes my cooking process much easier and faster is using an electric kettle to boil water.  Sounds crazy right?  Well I am an impatient person, so things like waiting for water to boil really irritate me haha!  It takes so long to boil a pot of water for noodles, and Iโ€™m just not here for it!  One day my husband suggested that I get the water started by boiling it in an electric kettle then transfer it to the pot to finish boiling from there.  I tried it and OMG!!  Never going back!  If youโ€™re impatient, too, try this out!  Even if you arenโ€™t impatient, it will still cut boiling time in half.  I made a Reel all about this, check it out!

5. Egg Cooker

My last kitchen appliance for making your cooking process faster is an egg cooker.  As I said, Iโ€™m impatient, and this falls into the category of boiling, so itโ€™s a no for me LOL  However, instead of boiling eggs on the stove, I use an electric egg cooker.  This thing is AWESOME because it makes hard boiled eggs perfectly (nice, yellow yolk and easy to peel) and quickly (around 5-7 minutes for around 10 eggs).  We have been using this egg cooker for years and itโ€™s another staple in my kitchen.

So there you have it, my favorite kitchen appliances that make my cooking process so much faster!  Do you use any of these appliances when you cook?  Iโ€™d love to hear what else you use to simplify your cooking process.  Let me know in the comments!
